New Business Internship Courses

E-mail Print

Western International University (West) Master of Business Administration and Bachelor of Science in Business students who are nearing the completion of their degree programs now have the option to apply for an Internship Course. Internship Courses are currently only located in Arizona and are designed to provide students an opportunity to apply their learning to a workplace setting and deepen their education with real-world business experiences. Once approved for the Internship Course by West and the employer, the student, in collaboration with a faculty instructor, will determine a final paper or project that is intended to synthesize the student’s practical experiences and prior coursework.

Benefits of an Internship Course

In conjunction with West’s complimentary career resources for students, including one-on-one career coaching and state-of-the-art resume tools, the Internship Course provides the opportunity for students to:

  • Evaluate, experience, and reflect upon a career field before graduation.
  • Engage in career-related experiences that complement and build upon different skills that are learned in the classroom such as critical thinking, writing, presentation and discussion skills.
  • Bridge the gap between school and/or previous work experience and a career field.
  • Experience roles, expectations and behaviors of the job arena.
  • Learn about one’s strengths, interests and problem-solving skills as they may be related to a particular career field.
  • Gain networking opportunities that are valuable in shaping future careers.
  •

Contact your Academic Counselor for more information about the Internship Course.

    Honor Societies Seek New Members

    E-mail Print

West’s three honor societies are looking for some new recruits this month. If you’re not familiar with the honor societies at West, they are chapters of some of the most prestigious academic honor societies.

Delta Mu Delta serves undergraduate and graduate students in business administration programs.

Golden Key is geared toward undergraduate and graduate students in any program of study.

Upsilon Pi Epsilon serves undergraduate and graduate students in information technology or computing programs.

These three organizations will be holding new membership drives to promote the honor societies and to share information about them to all students throughout West.

If you miss seeing them when they visit your campus, you can learn more about the honor societies on the home page at my.west.edu. Just look under West Associations on the left side of the screen.

Business owner, West alumnus, and West professor Dr. Lori Wieters shared her entrepreneurial wisdom and spoke frankly about the tips and traps of being your own boss. Said one attendee, “This presentation was so informative! It was definitely helpful.”

Did you miss this event? Not to worry--the recorded 1-hour session is still available through our West Interactive Online classroom!
