Benefits
Delta Mu Delta membership is a symbol of a student’s readiness to measure up to the responsibilities of the future. It is recognized and even sought by employers’ representatives.
Membership fulfills one of the requirements for entrance at the GS-7 level (rather that GS-5) in numerous professional and technical occupations in the federal service.
Thirty-nine scholarships are awarded annually (nationwide) to student applicants in a program of competition based on scholarship, leadership, character, motivation, need, and potential.
Lifetime Membership
The lifetime national membership and local initiation fee is $75, which includes a membership certificate, the distinctive key insignia and lifetime contact through the Society’s newsletter. The online newsletter, available at www.deltamudelta.org, keeps members abreast of national chapter news and their colleagues’ activities.
National Chapter Activities
The National Executive Council annually awards 39 scholarships to student applicants. The program is a competition based on scholarship, leadership, character, motivation, need, and potential
The national chapter publishes the Delta Mu Delta Vision, which keeps members abreast of national chapter news and their colleagues' activities.
Chapter advisers, national officers and members conduct the Society's business and participate in valuable programs at the Triennial National Meeting.
Representatives from the national chapter actively participate in the Association of College Honor Societies.
History
Five professors from the School of Commerce, Finance and Accounts at New York University founded the Society in 1913. Delta Mu Delta was incorporated in 1952. In 1963 it was admitted to membership in the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS), an organization of 60 member national honor societies whose objective is to maintain high standards for the recognition and promotion of academic excellence in higher education.
In 1992, the Society established an affiliation with the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). Future establishment of Delta Mu Delta chapters will occur at colleges and universities with business programs accredited by ACBSP at the undergraduate / graduate level.
Delta Mu Delta is classified by the Internal Revenue Service as a non-profit, educational society under code 501(c)(3), which means that all donations to the Society are tax-exempt for the donor.
Insignia
The Delta Mu Delta insignia is a gold key in the form of the Greek letter Delta, on which appears a full-rigged ship with sails set and colors flying. The ship symbolizes the activity of business. Below the ship are the Greek letters, which stand for the words Dia Mathessos Dynamis. The local chapter upon induction presents the key and engraved membership certificates. The colors of the national chapter are purple and gold.
