Applying For Financial Aid

You must apply for federal aid for EACH academic year you attend Western International University. To apply, complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

  • If you are a new student starting class between July 1, 2010 and June 30, 2011, complete the 2010-2011 FAFSA.

Required Information

To apply for federal aid, you will need the following information:

  • Your previous year's U.S. Federal Income Tax Return (1040, 1040A, 1040EZ, or 1040TEL) (i.e., your 2009 return for the 2010-2011 FAFSA.
  • Any untaxed income information (such as Social Security benefits, AFDC/TANF, contributions to pretax retirement accounts, veteran non-educational benefits)
  • Asset Information, including:
    • Value of cash, checking and savings accounts
    • Value of investments, such as stocks, bonds, real estate (not including the house you live in), and any debt against these holdings (not including mortgage)
    • Business value and debt
    • Farm value and debt

If You Are A Dependent

If you do NOT meet at least one of the following conditions, you are considered a dependent student for financial aid purposes and will also need all of the above information from your parent(s) or guardian(s):

  • Born before January 1, 1986
  • Are married
  • Enrolled in a graduate or professional educational program (beyond bachelor's degree)
  • Are a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces
  • Are an orphan or ward of the court (or were a ward of the court until age 18)
  • Have legal dependents, other than a spouse, for whom you will provide MORE than 50% of support from July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2011
